Monday babbles

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I recorded the men's road race and watched it Saturday while shelling beans. The Hubs had the great idea of planting lots and lots of beans for drying in the garden this year. All I have to say is that my left thumb feels like it's been pounded on and that was just one row. He canned 7 quarts of them and they look so pretty. Soup beans and cornbread, a Southern tradition!

I'm beginning to think I need someone here to poke me to get me started on my projects. There is so much to do. I would really like to do a thorough housecleaning but I can't clean like I used to. Now it is clean the bathroom fixtures, go sit down, sweep or vacuum the floor, go sit down, move to the next room and dust, go sit down. It is really unnerving to try to do things I use to do without even thinking about it and now to have to plan when and how much I can do. If I push too far, then I'm out of commission for 2-3 days so nothing is ever done start to finish. I guess it could be worse. I could not be able to do anything and that would literally drive me up the wall.

House cleaning aside, there are my crafty projects. I'm starting to get long stares from the yarn for the baby blanket. It seems to say, "Why did you buy me if you were just going to let me hang out in this bag?" I took it out Friday and looked at the lovely colors and said to myself that I need to get a picture of these colors all together and then I put them back in the bag and said, "Later". Procrastination, anyone?

Ah well, it's a new week and a new chance to get started. Wish me luck. Maybe by the end of the week, I will have figured out how to post pictures and actually have some to show. I'm off now to do some work in the office.

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you have a good day wherever you might be.

Wow!

I watched the Olympic opening ceremonies last night and was totally, completely involved. I believe this is the best opening ceremony I have ever viewed. The simplicity and the elegance was amazing. And I loved the clip of the Queen and Bond in the helicopter. London, you have done the games proud! Looking forward to watching many events in your lovely city.

Thursday, I finally made it to the front porch for a little reading. There was a breeze and the gentle swaying of the swing was just what I needed to relax and let go. There was a storm brewing and I sat on watching the clouds gather and the rain fall. I felt so at peace sitting there watching the rain, occasionally reading a page on my Kindle and watching my silly dog move from the porch out into the rain. I think he needed the welcomed relief also.

Unfortunately, I didn't get started on my crocheting last night. I want to take a picture of all the yarn first so I can do a progress report on my baby blanket. Have I mentioned that I am the "Queen of Procrastination"? I did do a little cross stitching but I got so wrapped up in the ceremonies that I ended up just watching.

Today has started off slow but I'm going to try to get the pictures today and start on this blanket tonight. Jellybean will be here in January and if I don't get a move on, there won't be a warm, crocheted blanket from Grammy to wrap up in. So I'm off to watch the cycling road race which I recorded (thank goodness for DVR's - 5 AM is a little too early for me) and do some laundry.

Thank you for stopping by and have a great day wherever you are.

Followers. I have followers!

First of all, I want to say a HUGE thank you to my followers. It is so exciting to look at the follower tab and see FOUR followers. My first follower, thank you Amanda of Crafty in the Med, was a big help in getting me started and was so kind to post a comment on that first blog. When I saw she was my first follower, I was smiling all over myself. Then today I get on to do a new post and WOW, I now have four! This is so much fun! Welcome to Sam, Cheryl, and Tammy! Thank you Tammy, here, for all your sweet comments and I promise to get some pictures posted here. Also thanks to Sam and Cheryl. You have all made me feel a part of this family.

Yesterday was not a good day here on the Front Porch, at least not for me. I have been dealing with quite a bit of pain for the last few days and I spent the day doing absolutely nothing. I can battle and push on for only so long before I have to have a down day. Today is better and hopefully this will continue.

The Hubs canned pickles yesterday. He is the canner and freezer of our garden (or rather, his garden) since I'm totally worthless in that department. I will post pictures of his lovely pickles as soon as I figure out how to do that.  :)

This will be a short post today. I have errands to run and it's not getting any cooler outside. Unfortunately, it's been so hot, I haven't even been in the swing for a while. Looking forward to September and the start of fall (my favorite time of year). I will be sitting out there and enjoying the changing of the seasons.

Thank you for dropping by. Have a lovely day wherever you are.

Playing with the blog setup

So today I have been playing around with my blog setup. I have added a follower gadget and some of the blogs I follow. I've also added a photo in my header. I don't know if I'm happy with it but I can always change it, right?

Today has been one of the days when you want so much to do so many things but your body says, "I don't think so!". My body and I are constantly in a battle as to what I want to do and what I can do. I had big plans for the day including clearing out some the clutter (mess!) in my office and packing away some files. I was also going to do some crocheting and start charting on a baby sampler for my grandson. However, my body has other ideas. My hands don't want to do much; it is even hurting to type and therefore, crocheting or charting is out the window. Clearing the clutter will have to wait for another day. *sigh* When I was younger and in better health, I would have thoroughly enjoyed a do-nothing day. But as I've gotten older and my health has gone downhill, I realize what a precious gift good health is. Life often doesn't go as we plan but I am thankful I can still get up and move.

So moving on...have I told you I am going to be a grandmother for the fourth time? My lovely daughter is pregnant with her first and I'm soooo excited. There is just something so special about sharing your daughter's pregnancy. We have had our ups and downs in the past but I can truthfully say that we are very close now and this special time in her life is only bringing us closer. She is 13 weeks along with "Jellybean" and I get more excited every day. At this rate, I will be bouncing off the walls in January!

Again, thank you for visiting my blog. If you have suggestions, please feel free to offer them. I'm so very new at this, I'm not sure I know what I'm doing. I love to read your comments just as I love reading your blogs. Have a happy day wherever you are.

Sharon

My very first post.

I have been thinking about doing this for quite a while. I'm still not sure that I will have anything of value to say or anything that might interest anyone.

I guess the first thing I should do is introduce myself. I am a 61 year old wife, mother and grandmother. I have 2 wonderful children and 3 sweet grandbabies (2 girls and a boy) with a fourth one on the way.

I enjoy reading, crocheting, counted cross stitch, and read blogs. I am the queen of procrastination so I don't always get projects done in a timely matter but I finally will have a finished product. I have lots of WIP's.

I chose the name of my blog because I like to sit in my porch swing and watch the world go by. It is a comfortable place to sit and read or do a little crocheting or just sit and let my mind wander.  A few years ago, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and some days, letting my mind wander is about all I can do.

I look forward to using this blog to record my thoughts and to let others know what's going on in my life. I hope you will enjoy my blog and find it interesting enough to check in on once in a while.

Thanks for taking the time to visit today.
