Last week, when I was working on Elijah's birth sampler, I had to prowl in the cross stitch cabinet for an alphabet chart. My cabinet is not as organized as I would like for it to be so there was a lot of drawer opening and closing and shifting of things trying to find one particular book with the right alphabet.
I opened one drawer and oh my, there underneath a magnet board was my "Angel of Cross Stitch". I found this chart several (many ?) years ago and fell in love with idea of having her on the wall finished, framed and smiling down at me while I work away on projects.
I was fascinated with the fact that every DMC color skein (at that time) was used in the chart and that she looked so lovely. I bought the chart and the fabric. I bought black Aida because I thought she would stand out so much better than on white. Of course, I was younger and my eyes were better. I have worked on her off and on for several years and had put her away because of baby commitments. Three grandchildren and one on the way take precedence over crafty things, right?
Anyway, when I saw her lying there all lonesome and forgotten, I was so sad. She told me she wasn't mad at me but that she had missed me and wondered if I would ever get back to working on her again. (Yes, I have conversations with my crafts.)
So here is a picture of her. Isn't she pretty? Of course I have to use a light box under the fabric to see the holes, but oh, she's so lovely and now I am itching to start working on her again.
I will have to wait awhile before I can start again because of more grandchild commitments but she will be finished and she will be framed and she will be loved.
As always, thank you for stopping by. I hope you have a great day wherever you might be.
Sharon
My friends Mum does the most amazing cross stitch, she has done pictures of her grandchildren, they look like photos! Your angel is coming along brilliantly! Ada :)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a great idea. I need to learn how to do that and add it to my fast growing WIP's. :)
DeleteHello Sharon
ReplyDeleteShe is gorgeous and you are going to be so proud of the finished product and your angel will be as happy as happy can be. Ahhhh I see you have latched on to several WIPs too.....I just can't see the end of the tunnel where my list of WIPS are concerned tch!!!
Your angel cross-stitch reminds me of a one I have that is unfinished....of the bust of Nefertiti....its a wonderful chart on dark blue Aida and I have done quite a bit to it....but I still can't pick it up yet. My mother sent it to me a few months before she passed away and every-time I see it I think of her and the last months she was with us. I will one day because she gave it to me for a reason and I must finish it.
We are roasting over here!!! temps up in 40s.... phew.
Amanda :-)
Oh Amanda, I know that is hard on you. My mother-in-law gave me a cross stitch kit from Denmark once. I had found it in a catalog and oh, I wanted it so much. We didn't have much money and so, for Christmas, she bought it for me. Then 5 years later, after I had finished it, she had it framed for me. It was the last thing she gave me before she died and I treasure it. It hangs in my office where I can see it every day and remember her. One day you will finish Nefertiti and you will be glad you did.

Dear Sharon,
ReplyDeleteWill you forgive me if I always refer to you as Grammy?
I am so thrilled to see you here and to be able to thank you for all of your lovely notes to me. I does mean so much to me to be able to say, "Thank you so much for all of you kindness."
Your angel is so beautiful. I don't think that I could do that.
I do know what it means to hurt in ones joints and to not be able to do that which you want to do.
Take care of yourself..do. You have been a treasure to me.
Love, E.
Oh Ellen, what a sweet, sweet message. It brought tears to my eyes. There is so much negativity in the world and to read your comment just warmed my heart. You may call me Grammy all you want. Thank you for dropping by and for being such a sweet person.

Very effective on the black fabric. I admire you for doing cross-stitch - I've only done a few projects over the years, and each time I vowed "Never again!"
ReplyDeleteP.S. Every DMC colour skein? Seriously? Wow. :)
Oh yes, all the colors at the time I bought it. Of course I was younger and more into challenges then. I absolutely love cross stitch. It is my favorite crafty thing although I do enjoy crocheting very much. Thanks for dropping by and for the lovely comment.
DeleteOh Sharon! I love her!!!! You need to put yourself first or you'll never get her done. There will be grandchildren and then great grandchildren.....tell your hubby to stitch for the grandchildren while you stitch for yourself! LOL! I'm sure years ago you put things off because of the children. Do what Sharon wants to do....you can do it all too....work on the kids stuff and after a certain amount of time reward yourself with working on the angel. They will probably inherit it anyway someday and then it will remind them of you!
ReplyDeleteI want one too! Send me a copy if you ever have time. Once, years ago, my friend and I...we always loved the same things...we bought 2 projects exactly the same and we had a race to see who finished first and the loser had to take the winner out to dinner! It was really a win-win. It was so much fun and she died years ago and I always think of her now when I look at that cross stitch.
Sam, what a sweet comment. Thank you so much. I will be happy to send you a copy of the chart. I'll email you for your address. Part of my problem is the fact that I get way too many irons in the fire and totally forget projects, especially ones I put away. Right now I'm trying to get things together for an Autumn Blog swap, working on Jellybean's baby blanket and trying to find the time to finish sizing the baby sampler chart so I can buy the fabric and get started on it. See, too many iron!
DeleteWhat a sweet thing to have to remember your friend. I have something like that hanging on my wall that reminds me of my mother in law. I need to blog about that. Thanks for the idea.
